About Dr Geoff Harding OAM

Musculoskeletal Physician

Dr Geoff Harding OAM is a highly respected musculoskeletal physician based in Sandgate, Queensland. Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to musculoskeletal medicine, he has dedicated his career to improving the care of patients with spinal and joint pain.

After completing his medical degree at the University of Queensland and postgraduate training at the University of Otago, Dr Harding went on to study advanced spinal medicine in Paris. He is recognised nationally and internationally for his expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex musculoskeletal conditions.

Alongside clinical practice, Dr Harding has been deeply involved in teaching and leadership, serving as Academic Coordinator for the University of Otago’s postgraduate program, and holding senior positions within the Australasian Faculty of Musculoskeletal Medicine and the Australian College of Physical Medicine. He has run numerous workshops in Musculoskeletal Assessment and Treatment for the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland over the past 25 years

Known for his patient-centred approach, Dr Harding emphasises education, empowerment, and self-management, helping people take an active role in their recovery.

Philosophy & Approach

  • Emphasises patient self-efficacy: helping patients understand their condition, feel in control, and participate in their recovery.
  • Takes a holistic view of musculoskeletal pain, using both diagnostic and therapeutic tools—especially where standard surgical or physiotherapy interventions may not have fully helped.

  • MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), University of Queensland, 1982.
  • Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Otago, 1995.
  • Completed short postgraduate courses in musculoskeletal/spinal medicine in Paris (Hôtel-Dieu) under Prof Robert Maigne and Dr Jean-Yves Maigne.
  • Fellow of the New Zealand College of Musculoskeletal Medicine (FNZCMM).
